A Bowl for Water

When a house is built, excavation of virgin soil takes place to accommodate the basement. Even after the foundation is setup, when the ground becomes saturated, water from rainfall and runoff will naturally take a path towards this hole that was created during construction. As water fills this bowl, the water will create pressure around your walls and floor and encourages seepage at any cracks or joints.

By extending your downspouts, modifying the grade of the land, adding alternate water diversion methods you can often minimize water flow into the bowl, however, during heavy rain many times it is virtually impossible to keep ground water from causing pressure on the foundation and seepage does occur.

The same type of problem often happens with crawl spaces.  Water takes the path of least resistence and during heavy storms a crawl space can become damp and then eventually contain nasty mold, bugs and air quality that is less than desirable for the homes occupants.
